It was 10 pm last Saturday, and I was ready to go out and party! I felt like I was back in college. Energy flowing. Vibrancy. Ready to dance 🕺🏼. Coming in Hot 🔥
Why so much energy? I purposely didn’t look at my phone 📱 ALL day! Okay, I peaked a couple of times 🤪, but seriously no more than 5 minutes of total screen time from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm. The bottom line for today is that when you can declutter your mind, avoid the disruptions, and focus on the natural world in front of you - your energy will flow too ⛲️. There are more significant pitfalls to our cumulative use that we will explore later1.
So, put the phone down 👇🏽. I know it’s easier said than done. The withdrawal and urge to cure the boredom and the slow down is real. Here are my quick tips.
Turn the phone off on Saturday Or Sunday. Create friction to use it.
Keep it in one place farthest from where you’ll be in your given environment.
Don’t travel with it. Believe it or not, we used to make our way around cities and communities sans smart phone. Studies even show using your memory for directions is a helpful brain booster2.
And finally. Please don’t make it black and white. I did mention I checked my phone a couple of times. New habits are much easier when they are not all or nothing. 5 minutes or 10 minutes of use is still way better than 3-4 hours.
Good luck. Feel free to message me to report your experience.
