This all started as a big experiment. I decided to write this blog to be creative, share, and help people be healthier in life. Writing this has also brought cool things. I’ve connected back to ideas that resonated throughout my experiences and experiments learning how to be healthier. I’ve delved a bit deeper into some topics for more resonance and awareness. And I’ve expanded my understanding of my healthy journey and some of the journeys I've connected with you on as a result of this.
And then came today. I was reflecting earlier this morning on some ideas from the book The Big Leap as I was revisiting it on Spotify as an audiobook. It led me to think about my creative time and creative expression (which has been driven through this blog over the last few years).
I thought about how this blog reflected a microcosm of how I show up in my life.
For starters, I'm hot out of the gate, and then I cool off as enthusiasm fades and self-talk or doubt creeps in. And even in reflecting on that I've become more aware and intentional about my commitments to myself. I am proud that I have kept things running for a couple of years even if there have been some long breaks here. I think the longest was several months. (Just looking: 4.5 months from Sept 2023 to Feb 2024). Good news is that I will keep posting here because the creative spark, the simple sharing, and the connected experience of helping people be healthier still carries on.
And the better news, is that I’ve been contemplating next steps for expanding my creative expression on health. I've come to some personal truths. Number one is the love of writing/creating/sharing/guiding/helping/celebrating. And the second is that my true love for health starts with a sense of play in an active lifestyle. This is leading me to create something more physiologically focused on connective tissue to achieve more holistic health. I’m starting with just a separate social media account providing insights into how I stay healthy day to day in my active lifestyle. More specifically I’m planning to embark on various physical journeys. In the first place, I wanted some inspiration from you!
Specifically, what would you find most intriguing to follow along or get insight and tips around...
1) Training for an endurance event (in particular the Miami Marathon) - how I build a plan, execute, handle obstacles, problem solve, and reflect on real time outcomes.
2) A father’s yogi lifestyle - I’m currently practicing at least 1-2 times a week, and often flirt with more. I’ve been thinking of ways to share more about fatherhood, and this combination struck me as interesting.
3) Living my healthy biometric lifestyle - getting into triathlons plus coaching has taught me a lot about using heart rate to train. Fast forward to today, and I have been wearing a Whoop strap on and off for 5 years (along with dabbling in other metrics and devices). I’m not dialed in to precise data points on a daily basis, and that's partly intentional. On this particular journey, I would dive into both the scientific merits of following your biometric data and the data points themselves. Balance that with my philosophy and implementation of data outcomes and boundaries.
4) All of the above sound about equal in interest and intrigue.
