Staying healthy—physically, mentally, and emotionally—parallels a creative journey. I've found a lot of similarities between my healthy lifestyle journey and the effort to write on a routine basis. I continue to learn and grow in my writing efforts, reminding me of the early days of my fitness life. Most days, I move without thinking about it and strive for the same in my writing. Sometimes the words crumble like a tired runner at the end of a race, panting for breath and struggling to find the finish line. But I persist, journal, or even publish here when I find inspiration and enjoy the reflection around the process and outcome.
Doubts creep in, questioning the value of my writing practices, just as one might wonder if their fitness regime is truly beneficial. How I'm efforting and tweaking tactics constantly invades my mind, but I realize that consistent output matters more than any specific outcome. So, I breathe, relax, and show up. Small adjustments are made, and I strive to become more consistent with this daily habit. In moments of self-doubt, how do you remind yourself of your progress, maybe in writing or other areas of your life?
Flipping through my old journal entries feels like unearthing a hidden treasure, each page a testament to the hard-earned lessons cherished (even the cringe-worthy ones). And sometimes I write something I love, like this post on the shadow in recent history. This periodic achievement strengthens my faith that this is all worthwhile, pushing me to keep the momentum. Sometimes, I catch a streak; often, I don't. Just like a pro athlete on a heater (aka hot streak), there's no magic formula—just practice and perseverance.
So I carry on and show up the best I can, seeking to maintain consistent effort and show up daily, appreciating both the challenging and rewarding moments.
What has been your 'breakthrough' moment in your creative journey, and how did it change your perspective on the process?
