"What you appreciate appreciates. It's true in our money culture, where a desirable house in a desirable neighbourhood appreciates in dollar value from year to year. It's true in our personal relationships, where our appreciation of someone's special qualities can make them bloom before our very eyes. It's true in business, where a company's commitment to its employees fosters pride and excellence in their work."
This quote from 'The Soul of Money' by Lynn Twist that I read in Ali Abdaal's Newsletter today reminds me of another quote: 'Where attention goes energy flows'. Both convey that when we express gratefulness for something or someone, it tends to increase in value or quality over time. It can be to any essential area of life, including financial, personal, and professional domains.
I found the connection in 'appreciation' between something tangible and wealth-building, such as real estate, to personal relationships quite intriguing when using the lens of potential to yield higher returns and increase in worth.
I love seeing our ability to thrive and grow when we invest our energy into relationships. I see this daily, whether in my work, my family, or even giving time and focus to someone in passing. Finding ways to translate and balance this gratitude across the areas of my life that desire attention at any given moment is exciting to see what may be discovered.
Today, I uncovered more motivation to create and express!
This quote drew me in, as you've figured out by now. I've thought about the time since I last wrote regularly. As I started a new job, my life pivoted with appreciation around stability and security while my expression here took a back seat. Looking back, I notice that my gratitude and attention gravitated to the sustainability of feeling protected in my life and work circumstances. And so that protection and comfort grew! After some reassurance, I've started to reexplore the magic of my creative expression over the last few months; I've noticed that the pendulum has been swinging back.
I look forward to exploring the balance of subsequent phases and iterations of my appreciation as I find where it takes me.
