I originally wrote this yesterday and held off.
Today (so Monday, actually) was a good day. It's been a good stretch of days for me, even with some sizable blips of triggers to trip over. That said, I blew up last night and was angry in a way that I haven't been in a long time. I wasn't very nice to my family (Lisa, Henry, and Hawk). And I said regrettable things. Here's the thing, though. We make mistakes. We say the 'wrong' something, the 'mean' thing, or the 'hurtful.' We struggle. We protect. We have this dynamic relationship of how we see ourselves show up in the world. We are conscious beings and constantly subconsciously judge our actions and choices, creating meaning behind themβour story. We are good. We are bad. We don't matter as much. No one will like it if we (fill in your blank). We have a unique way the world occurs to us.Β
For me, I've unpacked how and why my world occurs the way it does a few times over. And one of the most valuable lessons I keep getting is that it's all just perspective and thus a choice. We own the view, and from there, we decide what it means for our next choice or how we show up overall. We can consciously choose how we move the ball forward and how we frame and reframe our lives.
Here's where the coaching comes in. I want to show up learning. I'm fallible. It comes naturally to me as a homo sapien. Just because we figured some pretty cool stuff out like flying to the moon or how to clone ourselves π³ doesn't mean we've perfected our existence. We continue to evolve and learn. So for me staying in this evolutionary growth state means staying coachable or getting coached.
My day (again, yesterday) was a good day after tension the night before because I connected with my coaches. I've been coached in some form or fashion most of my life, from athletics to classic mental health therapy. Over the years, I've figured out how to get the most from being coached. And more importantly, how to find the coach/teacher for the moment and lesson. We get to create the life we want every day by our choices. So for me, it's quite an empowering thought that I can choose to be taught, coached, or guided. Pick the version that most connects with your readiness to learn and grow. π
Here's to coaching. π
